Altan, one of the most important live acts to play traditional Irish music in Ireland and on the world stage, celebrate 25 years on the road. To mark this anniversary they have recorded an album featuring a collection of songs from the past 25 years with the R.T.E. Concert Orchestra.
Respected by their contemporaries, they have performed and recorded with The Chieftains, Dolly Parton, Bonnie Raitt and Alison Krauss to name but a few. In 2003 they won the award for Best Group at the BBC2 Folk Awards. The band has gained platinum status in Ireland, and has also earned numerous awards in the industry. Three Altan albums have won the prestigious Celtic/British Isles Album Of The Year from the National Association Of Independent Record Distributors and Manufacturers (NAIRD), confirming them as one of the most popular bands playing traditional folk music in the world.
