Heralded as the future of Irish music, Kila discourse in a cut-loose Afro Celt sound that's fresh, funky, and altogether disarming. In polar opposition to what many modern bands do, aping acoustic beats with electronic means, the septet Kila hit a stellar tribal ceilidh groove, translating what might otherwise be electronic sounds back into acoustic indigenous instrumentation and timing. The group sings, chants, and raps in Gaelic, surrounded by fantastically frenetic fiddle, Uilleann pipes, flute, bodhran, bouzouki, guitar, and bass. Tóg É Go Bog É (Gaelic for "take it easy") features 14 brilliant pieces of caustic beauty that range from dervishlike hypnotic frenzy to ambient-textured soundscape to flyaway acid reels to generously progressive tripped-out traditionally based tunes. Kila are the Pogues meet Dave Matthews Band multiplied by the Incredible String Band meets Dirty Three, but not really. They'll blow your lid. Guaranteed.
