One of Ireland's most enduring and underrated acts, the Wolfe Tones went out on a very high note with this, the original foursome's final complete & original studio album. By this time (1987), their sound was professional and melodic, with strings often augmenting the guitar, banjo, bodhran, harp, mandolin and rich vocal harmonies. The song mix was still the same, with feisty, nationalistic anthems (The Guilford 4 and The Impartial Police Force come to mind) balanced by the sweet ballad as Mary of Argyle (a rare foray into Scottish material) and the humorous ode to...uh... socializing, Paddy's Night Out. Certainly a valuable addition to any Irish folk music collection. Derek Warfield has since departed and started his own group, The Sons of Erin, while the other three have carried on with a new album (finally!) called You'll Never Beat The Irish.
