The band formed when the members were just 15. The band was initially known as “Kiros” but changed its name three years later to “Corona” (named after a typewriter brand), but when the Italian dance act Corona re-emerged, the band changed their name again to “The Coronas”. Danny, Conor, and Knoxy hail from Terenure in Dublin while Dave hails from Monkstown. To date the Coronas biggest hit has been “San Diego Song” which has been in the Irish Singles Chart for 24 weeks. The band’s debut album Heroes or Ghosts was released on October 5, 2007, debuting at #21 in the Irish Albums Chart, and was described by Hot Press as “walking a soulful line between Jeff Buckley and the Libertines” and has been lodged in the Irish charts since its release.
In 2008 the Coronas were nominated for a Meteor Award, in the Best Irish Pop Act category.
