This CD was produced to raise money for the Irish arm of the Oxfam Charity who help people in the developing world to help themselves and work their way out of poverty. Members of Bell X1, Glen Hansard of the Frames, Gemma Hayes, Emm Gryner, Damien Rice, Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy, Conor Deasy of the Thrills, and so on. The lists is a who's who of quality Irish music. A few non Irish friends are on board like Nina Persson of Cardigan's fame.
They have come up with nine gorgeous songs in a current singer/songwriter, gentle indie, classic Irish blend of soul, folk and country kinda way. The disc kicks off with `Last Leaf' sung in a sultry white soul voice by Lisa Hannigan. She has sung with Damien Rice and on this form she is a singer to watch. She also duets with Gary Light body (Snow Patrol) on `Some Surprise' and delivers quite a different performance on the spine tingling Needles.
Song after song the singers give of their best. `Good Intentions Rust,. Sung by Colin Deasy of The Thrills sounds like one of the best Thrills songs so far. With great performance after great performance there are no stand out tracks here, just quality from start to finish. Last song Aliens is an Irish `Ground Control to Major Tom' number, delivered effectively by Neil Hannon.
