Paddy Reilly, now in his 70s, has been a premier Irish balladeer for three decades. Best known for The Town I Loved So Well and Fields of Athenry (neither of which is on this collection), he also spent almost a decade as a member of the Dubliners.
This collection was recorded in the late 1980s with a full orchestra on many of the songs. The result is simply a glorious listening experience. The arrangements are wonderful (never overbearing, IMHO) and truly highlight the strong melodies, Reilly is in fine voice and the selection of songs is unmatched.
