Deirdre Scanlan a native of Monagea just a few miles outside of Newcastle-West, Co. Limerick. While firmly rooted in the traditional vein, this album also offers a contemporary approach to some of the most popular ballads from the folk repertoire.
The album is a nice mix of the modern and traditional in that there is no attempt made to make the album sound 'old folky'. This is a nice modern production that pushes the strong and pleasant voice right out from so that you can hear the lyrics, and on songs that are just that little bit different too, as if a lot of thought has gone into the whole thing.
It features some of the best names in traditional music including Mike Mc Goldrick on whistles, Dessie Donnelly on fiddle, Seamus Brett on piano. James Blennerhasset on double bass, Fergal O Murchu on backing vocals and fellow West Limerick accordion virtusio Derek Hickey from Adare.
