Croí, the West of Ireland Cardiology Foundation, together with the cardiothoracic team at University Hospital Galway have developed a unique CD featuring 10 artists from the 10 counties served by the Cardiothoracic Unit at the hospital. This CD, in which each artist’s contribution features either the word heart or Croí is a way of using the universal language of music to reach the 1.1 million people living on the Western seaboard”.
The project aims to raise awareness and funds for the cardiothoracic unit at UHG and raise awareness of Croí and the work it does to fundraise for heart patients in the West of Ireland. The CD also hopes to remind people that heart disease is still the leading cause of death in Ireland accounting for one third of all deaths.
With the funds we hope to raise through the sale of this CD Croí intend to develop a Relative Support Programme. All our focus over the last two years has been, rightly on our patients and the service we provide them. We do know, however that it can also be an extremely stressful and difficult time for families, who may have to spend time away from home, sometimes at short notice when their loved one has surgery. We intend, though this Relative Support Programme, to provide support and assistance to family or friends at this time.
