Matthew Manning(principal Oboe of Ireland's National Symphony orchestra) and the composer Michael McGlynn (director of Anuna) have joined forces to create this album.
The Silver River of the title flows through the heart of Ireland and is seen as a metaphor for the constantly flowing progress of musical tradition, constantly augmented by external influences and streams. All pieces on the album are arranged or composed by McGlynn, including works by the Italian composer Geminiani, who lived in Ireland at the same time as the blind harper O'Carolan.
This beautiful and atmospheric record also includes the specially composed title track where Matthew Is joined by ex-Moving Hearts percussionist Noel Eccles and three tracks feature the soft tenor voice of Michael McGlynn himself.
