This popular long-running television series has been one of RTÉ’s flagship musical entertainment programmes since 1994. The DVD comprises of songs from singers in Irish and English; jigs, reels, hornpipes and airs from solo musicians and groups; step dances, set dances and ceili dances from exhibition and social dancers totalling over 2 hours of outstanding performances from across the rich spectrum of Irish Traditional Music.

Researched and presented since its inception by Nicholas Carolan, Director of the Irish Traditional Music Archive, there have been over 150 programmes broadcast to date. The two series have presented and contextualised discoveries from across the varied spectrum of Irish traditional music, bringing older viewers performances often forgotten or never seen back to life on screen and introducing new generations to significant musicians and music of the past. Footage is drawn chiefly from the holdings of RTÉ’s TV Programme Library for the station’s first twenty-five years, from 1961 to 1986, but also from the archives of other television stations such as Ulster Television and from film and newsreel archives such as the Irish Film Archive.
